Short communication A note on a comparison of the feeding value of sweet potato vines and lucerne meal for broiler chickens
نویسندگان
چکیده
The chemical composition of sun-dried sweet potato vines (SPV) and lucerne meal showed high levels (g/kg DM) of neutral detergent ®bre, ash and protein of 364 and 352, 178 and 100, and 191 and 182, respectively. Amino acid analysis showed modest levels of lysine, threonine and the sulfur amino acids in both meals but concentrations of these amino acids were generally higher in lucerne meal than SPV meal despite similar crude protein values. Mineral analysis showed a useful amount of Ca (10 g/kg) in both meals. When SPV meal replaced lucerne meal at 0±160 g/kg diet, broilers grown to 21 days showed no differences (p>0.05) in growth rate, food intake or food ef®ciency. The apparent metabolisable energy (MJ/kg) of diets containing 40 and 80 g SPV/kg was higher (14.1± 14.6) than the speci®c dietary concentrations of SPV at other levels. # 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Comparison of feeding value of a treated sea plant, Posidonia australis, with lucerne, pasture and wheat
An experiment was carried out to compare the effect of feeding posidonia australis as a non-conventional feedstuff with cereal straw for sheep maintenance; and to compare seagrass/chicken litter with lucerne hay and pasture for sheep production on a scale such as would be applicable to lot-feeding of sheep in the area of suthern Australia in case of short term feed scarcity. To approach this ta...
متن کاملEffect of Feeding Oak Acorn on Expression of IL-2, IL-13 and IFN-γ Genes in Bursa Fabricius Tissue of Broiler Chickens (Short Communication)
Today, the use of oak as a replacement feed in poultry diets is well documented. However, oak contains polyphenol compounds (tannins) as antinutrient factors resulted in limited usage in the poultry rations. Generally, consumption of feeds containing tannin could affect gene expression level of immune system. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different levels of ...
متن کاملA New Precision–Fed Chick Assay for Determining True Metabolizable Energy Values of some Poultry Feed Ingredients for Broiler Chickens
Two experiments were conducted to determine: first, the best time of excreta collection after force feeding of broilers to yield the maximal amount of excreta, and second, nitrogen-corrected true metabolizable energy contents of some poultry feedstuffs including yellow corn, soybean meal, corn gluten meal, canola meal and poultry by-product meal by a new precision-fed chick assay using 3-week-o...
متن کاملPerformance, Carcass Characteristics and Immune Responses of Broiler Chickens Subjected to Sequential or Wet Feeding Programs Subsequent to Early Meal Feeding Regime
The current study was conducted to evaluate effects of sequential or wet feeding programs subsequent to and early meal feeding regime on performance, carcass characteristics and humoral immunity in broiler chicks. 192 Ross 308 chicks (seven-day old) were allocated to four treatments at four replicates (12 chicks per plot) based on a Completely Randomized Design. Treatments were included: contro...
متن کاملEffect of Feeding Different Levels of Luffa aegyptiaca Extracts on the Growth Performance of Broiler Chicken Fed Corn-Soya Meal Diet
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of feeding different levels of luffa aegyptiaca extracts (LAP) on the growth performance of broiler chicken fed corn-soya meal diet. The study was carried out between January to March, 2019. A total of two hundred day old broiler chicks of mixed sex (Ross 308) were allocated into four treatment groups, each group was further divided into...
